At Lyng Hall we work together to ensure TEFL (Teaching
English as a Foreign Language) and EAL (English as an Additional Language) students
are able to make excellent progress to achieve and exceed expectations. We provide a coherent, cross curricular and whole
school system of support that identifies strengths and weaknesses in order to
tailor teaching and learning to suit individual needs. Students make rapid
progress through the inspirational and highly bespoke teaching and learning
programme that they follow.
Our aim in the TEFL class is to provide students access the teaching
and learning in all subject areas, in line with the national curriculum, whilst
developing and improving their English Language communication skills.
On admission to Lyng Hall we assess the English language
skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking of our new students. Dependent on the level of English language
communication skills, students either follow a mainstream timetable or are given
specialised English language teaching in the TEFL class.
Through subject and topic focused lessons, students build
vocabulary knowledge, strengthen language learning strategies, improve and
develop linguist and communication skills in English in order to join
mainstream classes when ready.
