Year 6 to 7 Transition

Welcome to Lyng Hall School

Starting secondary school is an exciting milestone. We understand that moving from Year 6 to Year 7 is a big step for both students and their families, and our aim is to make the transition to Lyng Hall as smooth, positive and enjoyable as possible.

Our transition programme begins well before students arrive in September. We work closely with our primary school partners to build our understanding of every child and to ensure that the right support is in place from the very beginning. We want every student to arrive at Lyng Hall feeling welcomed, confident and ready to take on the opportunities that secondary school brings.

getting to know Lyng hall school

Our transition activities give students the opportunity to become familiar with their new school before they officially join us. Students can meet members of staff, make new friends, explore the school site and begin to understand what life at Lyng Hall will be like.

Our Year 6 transition experience is designed to be both informative and enjoyable. Through a range of activities and lessons, students begin to experience the breadth of secondary education and discover some of the subjects, opportunities and experiences that await them in Year 7.

We know that confidence grows when students know what to expect. By giving our new students the opportunity to ask questions, meet staff and experience school life for themselves, we help to remove some of the uncertainty that can come with such a significant change.

supporting every student

At Lyng Hall, we recognise that every young person is different. Some students will approach the move to secondary school with excitement, while others may feel nervous or unsure. Our transition programme is designed to recognise these individual needs and provide the reassurance and support that students need.

We work closely with primary schools, parents and carers to make sure that important information is shared before students join us. Where additional transition support is needed, we can work with families and professionals to put appropriate arrangements in place.

The wellbeing of our students is central to a successful transition. We want every child to feel that there is someone at Lyng Hall who knows them, listens to them and can help them if they need support.

working together with families

Parents and carers are an important part of the transition process. We aim to keep families informed and provide clear information about the move to secondary school, including key dates, routines, expectations and the practical things students need to know.

We encourage parents and carers to talk to their child about the move, listen to any concerns they may have and celebrate the exciting opportunities that lie ahead. Our staff are always available to help answer questions and provide reassurance.

By working together – students, families, primary schools and Lyng Hall staff – we can ensure that every child gets the best possible start to their secondary education.

ready for year 7

When students arrive at Lyng Hall in September, our support continues. We help students settle into their new routines, develop positive relationships and become increasingly confident and independent learners.

Year 7 is a time for new experiences, new friendships and new challenges. We want our students to embrace those opportunities, develop pride in themselves and their school, and understand that they are an important part of the Lyng Hall community.
