Personal Development
Personal Development
At Lyng Hall, the bespoke Personal Development curriculum has been designed to reflect the unique needs and demands of our school community. Within this progressive, knowledge-rich programme, students will be equipped with the understanding, skills and confidence to support them to lead healthy, safe and fulfilling lives.
Based on three statutory themes of Health and Wellbeing, Living in the Wider World, and Relationships and Sex Education (RSE), students will develop powerful knowledge, personal values and competencies in preparation for life beyond school as active, informed, responsible, global citizens. Throughout both key stages, sudents will develop core competencies such as: independence & aspirations, autonomy & advocacy and choices & influences.
In Key Stage 3, all students will have a lesson a fortnight. In Year 7, students will cover the foundations in personal wellbeing, respectful relationships and citizenship. Year 8 builds on this knowledge by developing personal responsibility, resilience in increasingly complex situations and critical thinking. By Year 9, students will explore more challenging issues relating to identity, independence, safeguarding, and future decision-making.
In KS4, students will cover two lessons a fortnight responding to social, emotional and economic challenges that young people face today with aspects of religious education. Students will revisit key themes in greater depth, enabling them to apply prior learning to increasingly complex and real-life contexts. By the end of the curriculum, students should be empowered to make safe, ethical and well-informed decisions about their health, relationships, education, careers and future aspirations.
