The Design and Technology curriculum aims to: 

• Develop students’ creativity, innovation, and problem-solving skills through engaging design challenges. 

• Enable students to understand and apply the design process, from identifying a need through to creating and evaluating a product. 

• Equip students with the practical skills, technical knowledge, and confidence needed to design and make high-quality products. 

• Encourage students to think critically about the needs of users and develop practical solutions to real-world problems. 

• Foster resilience, independence, and adaptability through planning, testing, refining, and improving designs. 

• Help students understand the impact of design and technology on everyday life and its role in shaping the future.

RATIONALE 

Design and Technology prepares students for life in a rapidly changing technological world. At Lyng Hall School, students use their creativity, practical skills, and problem-solving abilities to design and make products that respond to real-world needs. 

Through designing, making, testing, and evaluating, students develop resilience, independence, and confidence while learning how technology can improve everyday life. Our curriculum encourages students to think innovatively, consider the needs of different users, and understand the impact of design on society. 

By exploring the work of designers, engineers, and innovators from a range of backgrounds, students develop an appreciation of how creativity and technology can shape the future.
