In Sixth Form, students get the option to choose to study the BTEC National Extended Certificate in Sport. It is equivalent in size to one A Level and is often taken alongside two other A Levels or Level 3 qualifications.
What do students study?
The course focuses on the sports industry and combines theory with practical application. Compulsory units include:
- Anatomy and Physiology – how the body systems work during exercise and sport.
- Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being – designing fitness programmes and understanding health-related fitness.
- Professional Development in the Sports Industry – exploring careers, employability skills, and progression routes.
How is it assessed?
Assessment is a mix of:
- External examinations
- Coursework/assignments
- Practical tasks depending on the unit.
