Key Stage 4
At Key Stage 4 we follow the Pearson BTEC Tech Award in Performing Arts. The award allows for a well-rounded construction of knowledge, skills and attributes that are not only applicable to a career in the performing arts industry but other more diverse career pathways.
The qualification is split into three discreet components:

Responding to a Brief
The course is designed to be linear, so we study each component in order.
In component 1 learners explore three professional pieces of repertoire: Hamilton, Everybody’s talking about Jamie, Matilda and the Nutcracker. They explore both the productions and the practitioners involved in the creation of the performances. These productions have been selected for their diversity of themes narrative and style.
In component 2 learners study, learn perform and review a single piece of repertoire, in the acting pathway repertoire means a scene from a professionally performed play. In this component the learners complete their own research and select their performance text themselves under the guidance of the supervision teacher.
In component 3 the brief is specified by the examination board. It includes a theme, target audience and a commissioning body. This component is the opportunity for learners to select knowledge, skills and attributes acquired and practiced in previous years and employ them in the creation of original material.
