At Lyng Hall School we endeavour to provide the very best impartial careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG) for our pupils. Lyng Hall School is committed to providing all students from Year 7 to Year 13 with an inspirational and forward thinking programme that not only inspires pupils to aim higher, in line with the current labour market, but challenges stereotypes and supports the development of a growth mind-set. 

The programme aims to satisfy the eight Gatsby benchmarks and also meet the requirements of the Department for Education’s statutory guidance, updated in 2023 and Provider Access legislation enacted in 2023. 

We aim to help pupils develop and add to their employability skills throughout their school life. This is through visits from employees, support with CV writing from experts and visit to employers to name a few. Our career’s programme seeks to help pupils understand and be prepared for the ever changing and challenging work and career environment. 

The updated Provider Access Legislation (PAL) has now been enacted. It specifies schools must provide at least six encounters with approved providers of apprenticeships and technical education for all their students in Year 8 to Year 13.  

Schools have a statutory duty to provide careers education (1997 Education Act, 2003 Education Regulations) and to give pupils access to careers information and impartial guidance (1997 Education Act, 2008 Education and Skills Bill). Lyng Hall School delivers CEIAG through pastoral support, tutor time, external and the teaching curriculum: PSHE lessons, Work Experience placements and external agencies, (employers, training providers & volunteering sector).  

The programme is designed to help young people make informed decisions about their future careers and to aid the development of the skills necessary to accept and adapt to change.

The careers programme will be integrated into students’ experience of the whole curriculum and be person-centered, impartial and confidential and based on partnerships with their parents or carers and external providers.
