CAREERS, EDUCATION, INFORMATION AND GUIDANCE AT LYNG HALL SCHOOL

Lyng Hall careers, education, information and guidance vision.
Lyng Hall School is committed to providing all students from Year 7 to Year 13 with an inspirational and forward thinking programme that not only inspires pupils to aim higher, in line with the current labour market, but challenges stereotypes and supports the development of a growth mind-set.
The programme aims to satisfy the eight Gatsby benchmarks and also meet the requirements of the Department for Education’s statutory guidance, updated in 2023 and Provider Access legislation enacted in 2023.

Careers Governance information

The updated Provider Access Legislation (PAL) has now been enacted. It specifies schools must provide at least six encounters with approved providers of apprenticeships and technical education for all their students:
• Two encounters for pupils during the ‘first key phase’ (year 8 or 9) that are mandatory for all pupils to attend
• Two encounters for pupils during the ‘second key phase’ (year 10 or 11) that are mandatory for all pupils to attend
• Two encounters for pupils during the ‘third key phase’ (year 12 or 13) that are mandatory for the school to put on but optional for pupils to attend
This new legislation will become a key mechanism to further help learners understand and take-up, not just apprenticeships, but wider technical education options such as T-Levels and Higher Technical Qualifications.
At The Careers & Enterprise Company, we are keen to support schools and providers to meet and evidence this updated requirement meaningfully as part of wider progressive careers programmes.

This is statutory guidance from the Department for Education (the department) issued under Section 45A of the Education Act 1997. Maintained schools and academies in England must have regard to it when carrying out their duty to ensure that there is an opportunity for a range of providers to access pupils to inform them about technical education and apprenticeships. Maintained schools, academies, further education colleges and sixth form colleges must also have regard to it when carrying out their duty or funding requirement to provide pupils with independent careers guidance.
